Library Programs for Children


 McKinley Memorial Library offers a variety of programs that are FREE for children ages birth-11 years of age throughout the year. We offer several literacy programs for specific age groups and for families with kids of all ages, as well as recurring monthly programs during the Fall, Winter and Spring months. We also offer exciting Summer Reading Programs that keep kids engaged and excited about reading over the summer months.

*Children ages birth to 11 years must have a responsible person over the age of 18 present with them at all times during library programs and events.

The library provides several different storytime and early literacy based programs for babies, toddlers & preschoolers by age group during the fall, winter and spring months.* These programs are designed to introduce early literacy concepts and skills to the children and adults who attend. These programs are walk-in and do not require pre-registration. The following is a list of the storytime and early literacy based programs that will be offered in the Fall of 2016:

  • Baby & Toddler Storytime for ages birth to 36 months & caregiver will meet weekly on Monday mornings @ 10:00 a.m. 
    • Begins on September 19, 2016 
    • This lap-sit program will introduce short stories, rhymes, songs and puppets for our youngest readers. Sessions will last approximately 20-30 minutes with built-in play time at the end of each session.


  • Preschool Storytime for ages 3 to 5 years & caregiver will be offered weekly on two different days/times: Monday mornings @ 11:00 a.m. and Tuesday mornings @ 10:00 a.m. 
    • Begins on September 19, 2016
    • This popular storytime program will be offered on two different days/times each week to better accommodate today's busy families--so, you can choose to attend on Monday mornings at 11:00 OR Tuesday mornings at 10:00 to fit your schedule! Each session will feature books, fingerplays, music, interactive games and activities, and a themed craft. Sessions will last approximately 45-60 minutes.


  •  Pages in Pajamas Family Storytime for all ages will meet weekly on Tuesday evenings @ 6:30 p.m. 
    • Begins on October 4, 2016 
    • This program will feature stories, fingerplays, music & movement, and a themed craft. Sessions will last approximately 30-45 minutes.



  • Music & Movement Class for ages 18 months (and walking independently) to 5 years will meet on the third Friday morning of each month @ 10:00 a.m.
    • Begins on September 23, 2016 
    • Children will move and groove along with library staff. There will be instruments, musical scarves, parachute and more! Sessions will last approximately 30 minutes.




We’ve taken back Mondays and turned them into a day to go bananas for! Kids of all ages can drop into the children’s room in the library on Mondays after school between 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. during the fall, winter & spring months!* These programs are walk-in and do not require pre-registration. Here's what will be offered in the Fall of 2016 (Monday Mania programs will begin on September 19, 2016):

  • First Monday of the Month: Lego Mania
    • Children will be provided with legos to build something cool!


  • Second Monday of the Month: Pinterest Projects
    • Children will be provided with materials needed to create a project that library staff discovered on Pinterest!


  • Third Monday of the Month: Apps-olutely
    • Children can use the library's iPads to try out and play with the featured App of the month!


  • Fourth Monday of the Month: Simple Science
    • Children can come in and do a simple science project with library staff!


  • Fifth Monday of the Month: Mystery Box Craft
    • Children will be provided with materials to make a surprise craft project!




Children ages 5 and up are invited to join library staff one Saturday morning  at 11:00 a.m. IN THE CHILDREN'S ROOM ON THE MAIN FLOOR OF THE LIBRARY each month in the fall, winter and spring months to build something together out of Legos.  Lego Club is a walk-in program and does not require pre-registration.  The library offers a variety of fun programs JUST FOR KIDS to enjoy throughout the fall, winter and spring months. Registration is required for all of the following programs, and registration will open on September 1, 2016. To register online, click on the the program titles below:
