Children's Room & Programming Policies:

McKinley Memorial Library welcomes our even our youngest  patrons to use our facilities and services. That’s why we have created special spaces uniquely designed for children!

When visiting and attending library programs, it is important to be courteous and respectful of other library users.
Library staff encourages children and teens to  have fun exploring, but ask that you be mindful and follow library guidelines and policies.

      • Children ages birth-5 years of age MUST be accompanied by an adult who is over 18 years of age at ALL times. If the child is in the Children's Room, then the adult MUST BE IN THE ROOM WITH THEM AT ALL TIMES.
      • Children ages 6-12 years of age may work independently in the library, but an adult who is over 18 years of age MUST  BE PRESENT IN THE BUILDING.
Therefor, the child may work in the Children's Room given the adult is somewhere in the library.
      • Children and teens ages 13 years of age and older may be in the building without an adult and work independently. However, it is important that the child/teen adheres to all McKinley Memorial Library Policies.

When attending library programs:

      1. Children ages birth-5 years must have a parent/guardian over age 18 present with them at the program.
      2. Children ages 6-12 years may attend the program independently, but a parent/guardian over age 18 MUST remain on library grounds.
      3. Children ages 13 & Up may attend library programs independently.

When in the Children's Room:

      1. Please, parents, no shhhhsh-ing! We encourage the kids to talk and explore!
      2. Please be kind and courteous of other library patrons.
      3. Please clean up after yourself and/or your child (i.e., put puzzles and crayons away and place books on the return book cart when you are finished).
      4. Most importantly, explore, learn, discover and have fun using the library!
